James is a Research Associate within the UCL Energy Institute Shipping Group where he specialises in the use of big data to understand current and future trends in maritime energy demand. Recent projects have focused on the development of accounting frameworks for national emission inventories and developing tools to identify opportunities for first movers in the transition to low-carbon technologies. A recent graduate of the Institute’s MSc in Energy Systems and Data Analytics, James’ dissertation developed methods based on remote-sensing data to detect non-AIS enabled vessels and understand the fuel consumption patterns associated with them. James also holds a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southampton.
