The challenge of reducing carbon emissions is undoubtedly a critical issue for the shipping industry. As the industryís regulator, IMO shares this concern and is heavily engaged in efforts to pursue the limitation and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from ships. Indeed, the Organization has adopted “Climate change a challenge for IMO too!” as the theme for this years World Maritime Day, in recognition of the intense focus this topic is receiving throughout the Organization and the global community in 2009.
