This dissertation explores the potential for the use of wind-assisted propulsion, as a means of propulsive power for shipping; with a view to cut carbon emissions. Both a Flettner rotor and a towing kite are numerically modelled here, and linked with wind data along 6 predefined South Pacific trading routes.
