GIZ (2009). Summary: Electromobility in the Pacific Island states
The 14 Pacific Island states are characterised by their generally small size and isolated position. In economic terms they are heavily dependent on development aid and tourism, money sent back by expatriates, agriculture and services – in particular, public services. The prices achieved for exports in these remote markets are low. The import cost of crude oil is high, as are energy costs in general. The economies of almost all the island states are virtually 100%-dependent on oil imports.
