Mr. John Kautoke hails from the Kingdom of Tonga. He acts as Technical Advisor to the Delegation of the Kingdom of Tonga at the IMO and assists in all aspects of the GHG negotiations. He has previously worked as an Advisor to the High Commissioner for the Kingdom of Tonga, in London, who is the Permanent Representative of Tonga to the IMO. In 2023, he was selected to be part of the Steering Committee on the conduct of the Comprehensive Impact Assessment of the Mid-term measures. At MCST, he is an advisor on the Maritime GHG Negotiations at the IMO and is part of our legal team as a researcher.

John holds an LLB (Hons) in Law and an LLM (Hons) in International Law. John wants to build a future where prosperity and progress harmoniously coexist with the preservation of communities on the frontline of the Climate Crisis.
