SolarDuck and Voyex have partnered to build an offshore solar PV installation near IJzendoorn in the Netherlands to support emission-free hydrogen production. The Province of Gelderland has provided a subsidy of €350,000, while Dekker Group facilitates trials, expected to begin in April, when the entire solar island will be towed upstream from Gorinchem to the working port of Dekker.

Producing 65 kilowatts of peak power, the solar island will be connected to a 10 kilowatt electrolyzer to produce hydrogen, coupled to a ‘Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier’ (LOHC), an oily liquid that serves as a carrier for the hydrogen. This “hydrogen oil” may be transported a manner similar to diesel fuel.
